Forget the Presents!

I tried wrapping some Christmas presents this morning while my baby girl looked on.  Well, "looked" isn't the right word...let's try "participated."  For about 2 seconds, she played with the presents I'd bought for her (a bead toy and baby piano).  Then she climbed over the wrapping paper, ripped old tissue paper, ate said tissue paper and played with the curly ribbon.  I finally had to stop when she started for the wrapped presents!

We headed downstairs so she could play with her toys and I could get some work done on the computer.  Abandoning her toys, she went for her favorite plaything: her highchair.  Perhaps it offers the most climbing possibilities!  She loves playing among the legs of the chair and sucking on the metal posts that stick out.  Other things she played with this morning: the shoes in the basket by the door (hitting my boots against the hardwood), the fake dirt in the fake tree, the drawer below the oven (pulling it out and pushing it back in), and her baby swing (climbing in feet first and swinging herself back and forth in it while STANDING).

So I'm rethinking the presents this year.  Who needs toys when there are so many other fun things to do around the house?  :)
