On the Move

My life as I've known it is now over.

In the last two weeks, my baby girl has learned how to pull herself up on the couch, against her crib railing, onto the legs of her highchair, up alongside cabinets and walls and the sliding glass door.  Not only that, but she has mastered crawling, so that she can get to where she wants to go...fast!

I am thrilled at her progress.  She's not quite 8 months old yet.  But I'm also terrified.  Yesterday I dropped the phone to rescue her from putting her hands against the fireplace glass cover (yes, the fire was going!).  I wasn't so lucky when in the afternoon she tried to pull herself up on the legs of her highchair and fell against a stupid peg sticking out, so that she cut the corner of her eye and eyelid pretty good.  OUCH!  I think it hurt me more than it hurt her.  My little baby girl, with a cut on her eye.  Fortunately it was only a cut, and didn't actually injure the eye itself or leave much swelling around the eye.

I wish I could protect her from ever getting hurt, but I know she needs to experience things herself sometimes.
